Lunatic Healed-Victory Revealed

The Healing of a Devil-Possessed Boy
In Consideration Of Matthew 17 and Mark 9

Matthew 17:15-21  And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,
Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.
And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
Then Jesus answered and said, O Faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I suffer you? Bring him hither to me.
And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

As I read these two gospel accounts in Mark 9 and Matthew 17 of God's grace and power in action,
I looked at them differently. As I read I thought of my art parable "1/2 Hearted Obedience, the Double Minded Man © 2013 Debbie Turner Chavers.

Reading Matthew 17 and the lunatics response to being attacked, I was reminded of another type of parable or scenario in which the water and fire were represented as holy and unholy immersion.
The goal was destruction of the man. He was sore vexed.

A double-minded man at times seeks the water of life and also the fires of Hell.
It is the struggle of the carnal man, the double-minded man who finds himself going backwards and forwards and being held in captivity.

Jesus came to set the captives free. He came to earth, died, and rose again for this very purpose. (Ephesians 4:8-10) ( Psalm 68:18)
All the largess of His earthly and heavenly treasure was freely given to man while he walked among them and after He returned to heaven.
Jesus went about doing good on this earth. He is still doing good.
How much more are the riches of heaven available through his atoning death for you and I even now? Abundantly more than we can ask or imagine.

Help thou Lord, our unbelief. Even as the father of the child with a dumb and deaf spirit besought the Lord with tears.  So we also in our generation call out to the LORD.
Lord, we believe; help thou our unbelief. (Mark 9:14-29)

The disciples asked Jesus why they could not cast the devil out. The father of the boy begged, he confessed his lack of faith/ belief and petitioned the Lord for more belief.

The only one Jesus denied freedom and faith ...was the devil.

Note that in both gospel accounts that Jesus told the disciples their lack of success was not based on :

1. The willingness of the devil to cooperate.
2. It was not based on the ability of the possessed to be free.
3. Nor was it based on Jesus' desire to free the one possessed.

So in consideration of prayer and fasting. Both require effort in our flesh. The end result was that the child was overcome by the wicked one and at this point,  the effort..the belief would be required of those who called upon the LORD in faith for the deliverance of the afflicted.
As the one requesting belief, we are to be led by His Holy Spirit not our flesh.
Remember Jesus said..This kind can come forth by nothing but by prayer and fasting. (Mark 9:29)

FASTING:
*Fasting prompts a pushing aside of my own natural flesh desire...the works of the flesh..Galatians 5: 16-21.
*A prompting to think on those things which are pure and lovely...Philippians 4:5-8.
*The opportunity to eat the fruit of the Spirit..Galatians 5:22-25.
To experience a purifying of motives and modes of daily operation. A setting aside of our agenda to seek His face, His way.

PRAYER:
Jesus died and rose again to give us complete VICTORY in all areas.
We have received victory through Jesus' shed blood sacrifice.
His Spirit within us recognizes the victory, prayer confesses the victory.

God reveals his word by his Spirit in a way that we individually and corporately can relate to it.
We receive Holy Spirit wisdom by the grace of God for victory in our everyday walking out of our faith in this world. We receive wisdom of God as we seek Him in prayer and the eating, and listening to His Word.
Study and communion.
Fellowship..Relationship with our God and Father who loved us in Christ before the foundation of the world. (John 17:24)
Jesus came to set ALL the captives free.
Trust Him. Believe Him. AGREE with Him.

In conclusion, my understanding is that fasting convinces our flesh ...what our spirit already knows and prayer that speaks it forth.

Resting

Water-Man Series

Do you work and live your walk in Christ Jesus..jockeying for position in the kingdom?
Be found faithful, serving Him. Not as men pleasers, but as servants and children of God.
In areas of our ego, less of us and more of Him always equals more in kingdom work.
Allow Christ Jesus in you to shine.
The Sabbath rest that He bought for you is not perceived as rest by you or others when you are self-striving.
Birthing things in the flesh...self-effort is foolish and draining. Rest in Christ Jesus, allow Him to do what only He can do.

~Debbie

2 Colossians 3:22-24  Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eye service, as men pleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God:
And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

**Just as a pen can't remember the words written as it was poured out..let us keep no record of wrongs as Christ is writing our story. Forgive.

Maturity Level

I love spending time with my children and my grand-daughters. The Lord often shows me Word parables as I interact in daily life. His wisdom magnified in the hearts of His children. We can learn much by loving observation as they mature physically and spiritually around us.

As my grand-daughter was helping me recently, I found myself directing her in a softer tone of voice.
As I spoke to her, I heard in my spirit "This is why the voice and knowledge we give concerning God's word is presented "age appropriately."
There are levels of maturity, spiritually and naturally.
Those that are mature in the things of God can chew the meat of the word by use.
Those newly born or that are at a toddler stage in their walk with God may still need the milk of God's word.
Be led by the Spirit of God in your speaking to others. Let your conversation be seasoned with the love and knowledge of God. We are all maturing.

~Debbie

Speak the truth in love..
Ephesians 4:15,16  But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
From whom the whole body filthy joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

1 Corinthians 3:2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.

Hebrews 5:13,14  For every one that useth milk is unskillful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.  But strong meat belongeth to them that are full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

New Art Parable: Child of Light Rising-Child of Light Risen

John 11:21-26
Water-man series

As I started this particular Art Parable last year I felt the need to stop working on it. Every time I would approach it to begin researching the scriptures for it and painting I would feel a disconnect.  After prayer I realized that my timing was off and there was something more that God wanted to show me. During this period of time my brother-in-law died unexpectedly and this Art Parable laid on my desk waiting.  The loss of anyone not just a loved one leaves humans with so many questions.
My family found comfort in God's word. I pray that you too will find comfort in God's word for any loss you may ever experience.

Word Buoys-Life Preservers and this art parable concept came to me as I was journaling some questions to the Lord and looking for answers in His word early last year.
It was many months before "Child of Light Rising- Child of Light Risen" was completed. The initial prayer started in February 2015 and was journaled and drawn from my prayer and question time with the Lord.
Initial rendition painting started in early July and then a disconnect until after my brother-in-laws death. The time after Mark's death and Thanksgiving was a time of healing for me and my family.
After our daily life began to return to a more normal schedule, I once again returned to this art parable and decided to sit quietly before the Lord and read His word.

Our experiences and time spent with God in fellowship help shape our understanding of where we are and where we are going. Our daily life and gifting in Christ can be a process. Do not struggle in the process, allow Him to show you the bigger picture. The picture that our natural eyes might not perceive.
As I read and glanced over at the beginning rendition of this Art Parable I began to see a different final rendition of this particular Water-man.
I painted the Water-Man's original outline, to only realize he was merely that...an outline.
An outline of what he would eventually be. What all born again children of God will eventually be.

Risen

In conclusion..Death is a hard thing to deal with, but death is not a final thing.
In life there is a cycle of growth spiritually as well as physically.
As children of God we move from glory to glory.
The death of our flesh and our resurrection life in Christ is a new beginning.

To die in Christ spiritually is to rise a new creation on earth through His death, burial, and resurrection.
But to die in Christ physically is to live with Him forever more.

In physical death our mortal remains are shed back into the dust.
But those of us who die to our fleshly nature are reborn unto a new reality as born again believers in Christ Jesus

Those in Christ Jesus who experience actual physical death of their natural body are finally released to be evermore with the LORD.
For the redeemed death will not and does not reign.
We are redeemed, we are not without hope.

John 11:21-26  Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.

But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.
Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.
Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection  at the last day.
Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

1 Thessalonians 4:13 But I would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

1 Thessalonians 5:8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love: and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Car Wash?

There are all kinds of cars and all kinds of people. People and cars need to be washed and detailed regularly.
I have been thinking about Ephesians 5:26 regularly. One of the ways we like to clean our flesh vehicle is to attend church for fellowship, praise, worship and attendance to God's word.
Gathering in groups to study the word of God is similar to going through a drive through car wash. The car is washed but you still might want to detail your vehicle before or after the washing.
Most individuals visit the detail area to do a thorough cleaning of the inside of the car.
In this illustration, detailing represents our individual time spent in His word and in His presence.
I want to encourage you to take time for the detailing.
After all most of us appreciate that new car smell!

Ephesians 5:26,27  That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing but that it should be holy and without blemish.

Water in Season and Out

I am blessed by the water of the word of God. The ability to swim year round no matter the temperature of life, relationships, or the weather. There is always shelter and safety to be found in God and his word.

In the book of Ephesians we are shown order for marriage and relationships as ordained by God and recorded in His Word. Jesus Christ literally lived it out, died once, and rose again to establish our salvation. I love the mental flesh check of "For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. Ephesians 5:29,30
We would do well to remember His admonition before, after, and during the agreement of  "I do."
As Christ did and does, so we are to do.
Life and our interactions with one another can leave us feeling less than freshly washed at times.
Life, people and situations can come at us with gale force. So if you are feeling unclean, less than fresh, like your drowning or in over your head.
God has word for that.
Jesus.
Jesus, the word made flesh. John 1:14
