Streams in the Desert

I wanted you 

to be pretty

But you were not

You were all hard edges

and broken pieces

Covered in shame

Voicing blame

I approached you

Tentatively 

Extending a cup of Living Water

You gasped

Drinking deeply

As a desert long since dry.

You began to bloom

A cactus released

Prickles still

Yet flowers began to bloom

Your beauty hidden

Now released in the Son.
